Proficient wound management is an ever-present challenge. Up to half of community nursing time alone involves wound care. Program description

Wound care is one of the fastest growing areas in health care today. Attaining comprehensive wound management skills requires continuing education that incorporates solid wound care evidence and principles, best-practice proficiency and interprofessional collaboration.

This online program for health care professionals combines the most current evidence and trends in wound care. It consists of two levels of training:

  • Level I is a six-week online course. Newly revised in 2020 to align with the most recent wound care standards, this course provides you with the essential tools and strategies to confidently practice evidence-based wound care as part of an interprofessional team. The main concepts include: prevention, wound assessment and care planning, wound care product selection, wound healing, infection, and patient-professional collaboration. Students must achieve a course score of 75% or higher to receive a Professional Development Certificate for Level I and be eligible to register for Level II.
  • Level II is an eight-week online course focusing on advanced wound care and the impact of additional patient facators on care planning. The online portion of the course is followed by a mandatory one-day workshop, held on campus or online depending on physical distancing policies. Students must attend the workshop and achieve an overall grade of 75% or higher in order to receive a Professional Development Certificate for Level II.

This hybrid online program provides a facilitated, flexible and interactive learning environment. You'll apply theory to case studies to develop broad clinical expertise in wound care.
