Program description

Over 1,000 students from 30 countries attend ELPI each year. It’s a program full of options and opportunities, where students can focus on general or academic English classes and pursue a pathway to UVic degree programs through the "University Admission Preparation" level.

In 2019, we launched "ELPI Summer"—a 9-week version of this program in July and August, so that students can enjoy ELPI all year round!

  • Six class levels (Upper Beginner to University Admission Preparation)
  • General and Academic English classes
  • ELC Learning Centre access before/after classes
  • Free and optional activities guided by Cultural Assistant staff
  • Homestay accommodation and meals


  • Conversation practice with Canadian volunteers at the ELC Learning Centre
  • Weekly elective classes to focus on skills / interests like IELTS preparation, Business English, Conversation skills, Music, etc.
  • Option to extend to 14 weeks with "Project-based Presentations" in December

  • Elective classes: 4 hours (morning or afternoon, 2 hours X 2 classes per week)
  • ELC Learning Centre: 8 hours (open Monday to Thursday)
  • Coffee Social (Friday) and other free activities that change every week

Optional activities led by our Cultural Assistants. For example:

  • whale watching
  • Butchart Gardens
  • trips to Vancouver 
  • hockey games
  • kayaking (depending on the season)
