Program description
In the Summer Language and Culture programs at the English Learning Centre (ELC), you’ll be amazed by how much you can do and learn. With multiple entry dates and programs ranging from three to six weeks, our classes and activities are fun and well-planned. Led by our TESOL-trained instructors, you'll not only improve your English language proficiency but also gain the confidence to listen, read, speak or write in many different settings. Enhance your summer experience by combining our program with optional professional workshops, such as Fundamentals in Business English (in July and August) or English for Professional Communication (in June). Whether it's improving presentation skills or English proficiency for business, we have something for everyone.
This program involves classes, activities and resources including:
- three to six levels of general English classes for upper beginner to upper advanced levels
- practicing and building confidence in presentation skills and written assignments through a range of topics related to society and culture, Canada and global issues (an "English through Themes" curriculum)
- workshops on international culture and conversation
- full calendar of social activities and overnight trips guided by our Cultural Assistants
- optional accommodation and meals provided through UVic Homestay (May-June; may be available July-August) and UVic dormitories (July-August)
- 20 class hours per week (60 to 120 total program hours)
