Business Intelligence and Data Analytics Fundamentals

Become proficient in fundamentals of business intelligence and data analytics. This course will provide the framework for you to understand, use and evaluate a variety of techniques and skills in analyzing data sets and making appropriate interpretations of the data.

Data Analytics Coding Fundamentals

This course will explore the fundamentals of coding and scripting for data analytics. You will develop the ability to script and code for basic tasks in data analytics in common data analytic tools such as R, Python and Excel. This will allow you to import and export data appropriately, perform fundamental data manipulations, and automate basic analysis elements.

Data Ethics and Security

Explores the ethical and security considerations in data management, with a special emphasis on Indigenous Data Sovereignty. Students will learn about the principles of data ethics, privacy, and security, and how these apply to the collection, storage, and use of data. The course will delve into the unique challenges and opportunities related to Indigenous data, including the importance of respecting Indigenous knowledge systems, cultural values, and governance structures. Through case studies and practical exercises, students will gain a deep understanding of how to ethically manage data in a way that supports the rights and interests of Indigenous communities.

Introduction to Data Storytelling, Visualization and Reporting

Learn how to effectively communicate data results, evaluate strengths and weaknesses of various data communication and visualization techniques, explore the fundamentals of various tools for creating interactive and static visualizations and will gain hands-on experience in reporting insights through both written and visual formats.

Participants will learn how to transform data into compelling narratives using visual tools and effective communication strategies.
