Course description

Learn how to effectively communicate data results, evaluate strengths and weaknesses of various data communication and visualization techniques, explore the fundamentals of various tools for creating interactive and static visualizations and will gain hands-on experience in reporting insights through both written and visual formats. Participants will learn how to transform data into compelling narratives using visual tools and effective communication strategies.

Learning objectives

  • Explain the principles of effective data storytelling and visualization, describing how to match communication techniques with specific audience needs and data types.
  • Apply various data visualization techniques and tools to create clear and impactful visual representations of data.
  • Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of various data visualization techniques and communication methods, assessing their effectiveness in conveying key messages and insights to diverse audiences.
  • Design and present a data-driven narrative, integrating both written and visual elements, to communicate complex data findings in a clear and compelling manner.

Required Equipment (Laptop)

To complete the program, students must have access to a laptop that meets the following minimum requirements.

Laptop specifications (minimum requirements)

  • Processor (CPU): Intel Core i5 (10th gen or newer) / AMD Ryzen 5
  • RAM: 8GB (16GB recommended for better multitasking)
  • Storage: 256GB SSD (512GB preferred for larger file storage)
  • Graphics card (GPU): Integrated graphics (Intel Iris Xe or AMD Radeon)
  • Battery life: At least 6 hours
    • Note: For in-person classes, students must bring a fully charged laptop
  • Operating system: Windows 11 or macOS (Windows is preferred for Power BI)

For Online Classes

  • Webcam: Built-in or external HD webcam (USB recommended)
  • Speakers & microphone: Built-in, USB plug-in, or wireless Bluetooth
