Designing Learning for a Changing Workplace (DLCW) FAQ

The estimate total cost for the program is $1,895. Each course fee is $625 and students must pay a $20 program fee one time during the registration of one of the courses.

No, payments are done as per course registered.

No application is necessary, simply select any of the courses required for the micro-certificate and register for them independently. When registering, you will have the option to purchase the Micro-certificate in Designing Learning for a Changing Workplace fee at an additional cost of $20. You are only required to select this when registering for one of the three courses.

It is recommended that participants have completed secondary school and are new or emerging workplace learning professionals.

Courses are offered online and they follow an asynchronous delivery style. Meaning, students do not need to be online at any particular time to participate. Students will participate in discussions with their colleagues in the course and the instructor using a learning management system called Brightspace. Connection to the internet is all that is required to access Brightspace and students will be sent a URL and start-up information.

>Students typically spend about 10 hours each week on their coursework (course readings, assignments, online discussion) but they are not required to be online each day: usually two or three times a week is adequate. There are typically 3-4 assignments in each course, including an online participation assignment, as students are expected to engage regularly with their classmates and instructor through the course Brightspace site. In order to obtain the micro-certificate, students must complete one core course and two elective courses.

Designing Learning in a Hybrid Workplace (DLHW) micro-certificate program (This is a different micro-certificate program, and, students who complete this program can transfer it as one elective towards the DLCW program)

Courses can be taken in any order, however all courses are offered subject to minimum enrolment.

There are no transfer credits options for courses taken elsewhere. However, students who complete the Designing Learning in a Hybrid Workplace program can use it as one elective in the Designing Learning for a Changing Workplace program.

In addition, students completing the Designing Learning for a Changing Workplace program can use those courses towards the completion of the CACE program.

Students are required to contact hspradmin@uvic.ca once they have completed their courses to receive their digital micro-certificate.
