Awards, Scholarships and Bursaries for Cultural Resource Management Students

In addition to financial aid, there are a number of awards and scholarships that may be available to Cultural Resource Management students:

Each term the Division of Continuing Studies offers bursaries totalling $1,000 to assist learners in furthering their education. Bursaries are awarded to learners who can display evidence of a commitment to lifelong learning and who can demonstrate financial need. Learn more about the Continuing Studies bursary.

About

Continuing Studies at UVic offers the Kalman Award for International Heritage Studies to students looking to participate in a heritage studies learning activity abroad. Applicants must be enrolled in the Diploma in Cultural Resource Management or another degree program at the University of Victoria. The Kalman Award supports travel and other expenses for activities in which students can expand their learning experiences and professional networks. The current value of the Kalman Award is a approximately $1,500.

Funded learning experiences include:

  • Attendance at heritage-related courses, seminars, workshops and conferences in locations outside Canada or the student's country of residence, whether offered by the University of Victoria or by other institutions.
  • An internship with an international government entity or with a heritage firm or professional (Canadian or international) working outside Canada.
  • Self-directed study (ie AHVS 491A) in heritage conservation in a location outside Canada or the student's country of residence.

Criteria

Applications will be assessed by how well the proposed activity will complement the student's academic program and/or career goals.

  • Academic excellence - preference will be given to applicants who have excellent student records.
  • Opportunity for broadened perspectives - preference will be given to applicants whose proposed activity provides an experience much different (culturally, politically, geographically) than they can have where they live or were raised.
  • Impact of the award - while the demonstration of financial need is not a requirement, preference may be given to students who are needful of support, when other aspects of the applications are equal.

In addition, the applicant must not have received a Kalman Award in the previous 24 months.

About

Continuing Studies at UVic offers the Yosef Wosk Travel Award to full or part-time students enrolled in the Diploma in Cultural Resource Management, the Professional Specialization Certificate (PSC) in Collections Management, or the Professional Specialization (PSC) in Community and Visitor Engagement to attend face to face courses at UVic.

Application forms are available online through the Division of Continuing Studies and must be submitted by August 1. The Yosef Wosk Travel Award supports travel costs including transportation and accommodation for the duration of the learning program to a maximum of $500 per student.

  • Must be enrolled in the Diploma in Cultural Resource Management or PSC in either Collections Management or Visitor and Community Engagement
  • Opportunity for broadened perspectives - preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate the benefit of the course personally and professionally.

In addition, the applicant must not have received a Yosef Wosk Travel Award in the previous 12 months.

About

It is with sincere thanks to the Oak Bay Heritage Foundation that Continuing Studies at the University of Victoria was able to offer nine awards to students enrolled in a Cultural Resource Management program between 2019 and December 2021 to support their studies and professional growth. The Oak Bay Heritage Foundation Award supported educational costs including tuition/course fees or other heritage activities such as attendance at a heritage conference, to a maximum of $1000.
