Self-Awareness and Unconscious Bias in Dialogue

COURSE

Course description

Uncomfortable conversations often start with internal discomfort. This workshop explores how self-awareness and understanding unconscious bias lay the foundation for courageous dialogue.

You will examine your personal mastery in dialogue, emotional triggers, and the influence of trust, active listening, and values on dialogue. Drawing from Rishi Sharma’s thesis, A Paradigm Shift to Utilizing Uncomfortable Conversations, this session blends leadership theory with reflective practice to help you understand your own reactions and patterns in uncomfortable or difficult conversations.

Through activities and discussion, you will build strategies for emotional regulation, self-reflection, personal mastery and inclusive dialogue. By developing these internal competencies, you will be prepared to engage in high-stakes conversations with greater empathy, presence, and confidence.

Learning objectives

Upon completion of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • identify personal unconscious bias and emotional triggers
  • recognize how identity, values, and unconscious bias influence discomfort
  • develop self-awareness and emotional regulation skills
  • understand the role of personal mastery in dialogue
  • apply reflective tools to improve personal leadership in communication
