Course description
Explores the use of controlled terminologies for health information exchange (HIE) in health care organizations. Covers the planning, development, implementation, use, maintenance and evaluation of HIE standards, resources and tools. Examples of HIE standards covered include HL7, CDA, FHIR, IHE integration profiles and clinical information models.
Learning objectives
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of current trends, issues and tools in interoperability standards
- Manage, support and collaborate in the adoption lifecycle of interoperability standards, including their selection, implementation, maintenance and evaluation
- Recommend the creation, distribution and update of interoperability standards documentation including its alignment with terminology standards and services
- Fulfill the TS curricular competency requirements under domains 5, 4.7, 4.9 to 4.12, 5.1 to 5.7
