Course description

This course is for students at an intermediate level who would like to practice their oral French. You’ll gain more fluency in using your French in a variety of everyday situations, such as speaking about likes and dislikes, making comparisons and telling a story in the past. It can be taken as many times as you like, as themes will vary each term.

Learning objectives

Students in this level will learn and practice language skills needed in simple everyday situations such as:

  • speaking about future plans
  • telling a simple story in the past
  • speaking about likes and dislikes, preferences
  • making comparisons
  • asking and answering increasingly complex questions
  • speaking about your health
  • giving detailed descriptions of people, objects, situations and events, in the present and past tenses

Prerequisites

You can register for this level if you already know how to do the following things in French:

  • speak on the telephone
  • ask for and give directions 
  • make reservations
  • give a definition
  • clarify a statement
  • tell whether a sentence is in a past, present or future tense

Additional Information

This level can be taken as many times as desired, as topics covered will change from one session to the next. It is not intended to take students directly to the Level 4 (formerly Advanced) level.

Students who wish to study in a program where they can move steadily from one level to the next—and where emphasis is also put on the written language—are encouraged to take courses in the Comprehensive French series instead.

French Language courses are offered three times per year:

  • September (registration opens in June)
  • January (registration opens in November)
  • April (registration opens in November)
