This course is intended for intermediate students in French. It allows them to practice their oral skills at a level with which they are comfortable and to gain more fluency and more confidence in using the language in a broad variety of familiar situations.
Students in this level will learn and practice language skills needed in simple everyday situations such as:
speaking about future plans
telling a simple story in the past
speaking about likes and dislikes, preferences
asking and answering increasingly complex questions
speaking about your health
giving detailed descriptions of people, objects, situations and events, in the present and past tenses
You can register for this level if you already know how to do the following things in French:
speak on the telephone
ask for and give directions
give a definition
clarify a statement
tell whether a sentence is in a past, present or future tense
This level can be taken as many times as desired, as topics covered will change from one session to the next. It is not intended to take students directly to the Advanced level.
Students who wish to study in a program where they can move steadily from one level to the next—and where emphasis is also put on the written language—are encouraged to take courses in the Comprehensive French series instead.
This course may be available online. Students login to the course and communicate with the instructor and fellow students via the Internet. All assignments and course activities are submitted electronically to the course instructor.
