Course description

Create more inclusive, accessible and equitable workplaces. In this six-week online course, you’ll explore disability inclusion through the social model of disability, anti-ableism, inclusive language, and the role of assistive technology. Learn how to design accessible spaces, support inclusive hiring and retention, and build confidence using practical tools and strategies. You’ll finish the course with a personalized action plan to advance accessibility within your own organization.

This course introduces the core concepts of disability, accessibility and inclusion. Learners will explore the social model of disability, anti-ableism, inclusive language, and the role of assistive technology—building the mindset and vocabulary to support meaningful inclusion in any setting.

Building on this foundation, you will develop actionable tools to truly foster accessible, welcoming and equitable workplaces for folks living with disabilities. Through exploring inclusive hiring, retention, and accessible design across physical, digital, and socio-cultural environments, you will gain the confidence and skills to create meaningful change. An applied capstone project empowers you to develop and implement customized action plans that advance disability inclusion within your own organizations.

Learning objectives

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • define and explain key concepts of disability, accessibility, inclusion, and anti-ableism using plain, respectful language.
  • analyze workplace practices, policies, and environments to identify barriers across physical, digital, and cultural contexts.
  • apply inclusive hiring, retention, and communication strategies to better support employees with disabilities.
  • evaluate and use accessibility tools and approaches, including assistive technology, plain language, and barrier-free design.
  • create an action plan to improve accessibility and inclusion in their own workplace.

Open to everyone, this course welcomes professionals, students, and community members who want to make workplaces more accessible and inclusive. No previous experience or formal admission is required.
