Arms and the Man

COURSE

Course description

Canada’s biggest arms buyer is the Middle East, but state actors aren’t the only merchants involved in the lucrative arms bazaar. In this lecture we will explore the lives of three former Canadian arms dealers: The Shadowman of Zurich, Hassan Sayed Kamil, who once owned the Grouse Nest on Vancouver Island; The White Sultan of Oman, Brigadier Sir James Timothy Landon, who was born in Oak Bay; and the man who designed the Doomsday Gun for Iraq’s Saddam Hussein, Dr. Gerald Bull, who was killed under mysterious circumstances in Belgium.
