Program description

Successful "UAP" completion satisfies the English requirement for admission to many UVic undergraduate degree programs.

This intensive summer program will help prepare you for success as a UVic degree student by polishing your academic English skills and providing an introduction to Canadian culture. A passing grade on "UAP" satisfies the English language proficiency requirement for admission to many UVic undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The UAP score is only valid for UVic applications submitted within 2 years of successful UAP completion.

UAP develops skills in:

  • Oral presentations
  • Note-taking and report-writing
  • Reading academic texts
  • Research

Application information

Admission requirements

To study in this program, you must have a minimum of one of the following exam scores:

  • IELTS (academic) overall score of 6 or higher with a minimum score of 5.5 in each skill area (R/L/S/W)
  • iBT TOEFL score of 79 or higher with no section less than 17 (R/L/S/W)
  • CAEL 60 with no subscore less than 50
  • Passing Grade (80%) for level 570 Academic in the Intensive English (ELPI) program
  • Passing Grade (80%) for level 570 General in the Intensive English (ELPI) program, with a passing grade on the UAP writing test
