Program description

This advanced program offers academic English preparation if you want to pursue a UVic degree program.  Successful "UAP" completion satisfies the English requirement for admission to many UVic undergraduate degree programs.

UAP develops skills in:

  • Oral presentations 
  • Note-taking and report-writing
  • Reading academic texts 
  • Research

Registration requirements

To study in this program, you must:

  • successfully complete an entrance exam, written test and personal interview
  • have a minimum of one of the following exam scores:
    • IELTS overall score of 6 or higher with a minimum score of 5.5 in each skill area (R/L/S/W)
    • iBT TOEFL score of 79 or higher with no section less than 17 (R/L/S/W)
    • CAEL 60 with no subscore less than 50
    • Passing Grade (80%) for level 570 Academic in the Intensive English (ELPI) Program
    • Passing Grade (80%) for level 570 General in the Intensive English (ELPI) Program, with a passing grade on the UAP writing test
