Opera Unveiled: Passion and Power from Stage to Screen
COURSE
Course description
Step into the world of opera where love, betrayal, myth and music come together in unforgettable ways.
This winter, we’ll explore five captivating productions:
- Bellini’s I Puritani, a romantic bel canto drama with dazzling vocal fireworks;
- Puccini’s Tosca, a tense and tragic story of love and sacrifice (presented by Pacific Opera Victoria);
- Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, a moving tale of missed chances and deep regret;
- Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, a sweeping masterpiece of longing and musical innovation; and
- Gluck’s Orpheus and Eurydice, a timeless retelling of the classic myth in Pacific Opera’s elegant new staging.
Through guided discussions and background lectures, we’ll explore each opera’s story, music and staging—no prior experience needed.
Whether you’re a longtime fan or brand new to opera, this popular course offers a welcoming and engaging way to experience the beauty and drama of the operatic stage.
