Course description

An introduction to language used by the Deaf community in North America.

Covers basic vocabulary, essentials of grammar and fundamental structures for everyday interaction. The course also provides insight into the Deaf community and Deaf culture. No prior knowledge of ASL is required.

How to register

Registration is limited to UVic undergraduate students. Students should register themselves via UVic's Online Tools.

Students who have successfully completed a college or university course in ASL and/or are fluent ASL signers may apply to the department for consideration of advanced placement to a higher language level.
