Awards, grants and bursaries for Restoration of Natural Systems students

In addition to financial aid, there are the following awards that may be available to RNS students:

Each term the Division of Continuing Studies offers bursaries totalling $1,000 to assist learners in furthering their education. Bursaries are awarded to learners who can display evidence of a commitment to lifelong learning and who can demonstrate financial need. Learn more about the Continuing Studies bursary.

Two awards of up to $2,500 are given annually to entering or continuing Canadian-born Indigenous students in the Restoration of Natural Systems (RNS) program with demonstrated financial need.

Criteria

Applications will be assessed based on:

  • Indigenous identity confirmation
  • Impact of the award – preference will be given to Indigenous students who are needful of support.

How to apply

Applications must be received no later than September 1 (to have it apply to fall term), December 1 (for Spring term), or April 1 (for summer term).

Students currently enrolled, or enrolling, in their ER390 directed project are all eligible to apply for the Lorene Kennedy Grant, a $500 one-time allocation to help offset the expense of a project's field component. To receive the grant, students must be registered in their 390 course as it will be credited to a tuition account.

Criteria

Applications will be assessed based on:

  • Clarity of project goals and needs as articulated in the description and budget
  • Impact of the award – preference will be given to students who are needful of support.

How to apply

Applications must be received no later than March 15th (to have it allocated in summer), July 15th (fall allocation), or November 15th (winter/spring allocation).

The Lorene Kennedy Field Course Award is automatically awarded to students in the RNS Diploma program who participate in the following field courses that have additional field course fees: ER326 and ER412. The award will offset approximately 75% of the cost of your additional fees.

Please note, RNS Certificate Students are not eligible for the award.

Award Process

  • You do not have to apply for this award.
  • After you have completed either ER326 or ER412 and your grades have been submitted and confirmed by the registrar’s office, and you have successfully passed the course, you will be awarded 75% of your field course fee as a credit on your UVic Tuition Account.
  • You will not receive this award until mid-way through the following term after your course completion.
