DELF

DELF (Diplôme d'études en langue française) and DALF (Diplôme approfondi de langue française) are official diplomas issued by the French Ministry for National Education, certifying the French language skills of non-native speakers. These diplomas are valid for life and assess proficiency across six levels—from A1 (beginner) to C2 (mastery)—aligning with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).

The DELF/DALF evaluates four core language skills: oral comprehension, oral expression, written comprehension, and written expression. UVic typically hosts these examinations three to four times a year though specific schedules and levels that are subject to change. These diplomas are increasingly requested by BC school districts for French immersion teacher certification, requiring at least a B2 level.

Who should take this examination?

French Immersion Teachers (primarily for DELF B2 and higher): This examination is for education professionals in British Columbia. Demographically, participants may range from recent graduates of education programs to experienced teachers seeking to meet certification requirements. Professionally, you are dedicated to French language education and are looking to fulfill district-mandated proficiency levels (e.g., DELF B2) to secure, or maintain, teaching contracts in French immersion programs.
