The University of Victoria (UVic) is a leading official examination centre for internationally recognized French language proficiency tests: the DELF/DALF and the TCF. Administered by UVic's School of Languages, Linguistics and Cultures (SLLC) and supported by Continuing Studies at UVic, these examinations provide essential certification for individuals aiming to advance their careers, pursue academic opportunities, or fulfill immigration requirements in Canada.
Examination outcomes
Upon successful completion of the respective French language examination, you will:
- receive an official diploma (DELF/DALF) issued by the French Ministry for National Education, or a certificate (TCF) from France Éducation international, formally validating your French language proficiency
- obtain certified proof of your French language skills aligned with the internationally recognized Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL) at levels ranging from A1 to C2
- possess a recognized credential demonstrating your abilities in all four key language competencies: oral comprehension, oral expression, written comprehension, and written expression
- be equipped with the necessary documentation to fulfill specific requirements for: French immersion teacher certification in British Columbia (typically DELF B2), and Canadian permanent residency and citizenship applications (via TCF-Canada)
- receive admission to French-speaking academic programs

DELF and DALF
Register for DELF/DALF exams—official French proficiency diplomas (A1-C2) required for BC French immersion teaching positions. Exams held 3-4 times yearly.
TCF-Canada
Take TCF-Canada, the official French test recognized by IRCC for Canadian permanent residency and citizenship applications. Essential for earning valuable language points in your immigration process.
All DELF/DALF and TCF examinations are conducted in-person at the University of Victoria and cannot be held at a distance or online. As an authorized examination centre, SLLC ensures the integrity and official nature of these tests.
