Why Philosophy? Aristotle's Lost Dialogue Protrepticus
COURSE
Course description
Aristotle's masterful introduction to philosophy inspired many later authors from Epicurus to Cicero and Iamblichus. However, it was lost in the general collapse of later antiquity along with his other stylish publications. Recent scholarship has authenticated large citations from this work, which can now be reconstructed as a witty dialogue. In this seminar, you will read and discuss this reconstructed dialogue.
