This talk will discuss the rise of the detective novel in Iceland in this century, focusing on the work of Arnaldur IndriĆ°ason. Like the medieval saga-writers, he uses the shared memories of his readers to deal with problems of contemporary society. He also shares with them a complex and conflicted relationship with the past.
