Sir James Douglas: A New Look at a Key Figure in British Columbia
COURSE
Course description
Known as the “Father of British Columbia,” Douglas is a complex character. From his origins as an illegitimate son with Black and White ancestry in what is now Guyana, he rose to the highest positions in two colonies on Canada’s West Coast. His relations with Indigenous Peoples have been both praised and criticized by modern historians. John Adams, author of Old Square-Toes and His Lady, a biography of Sir James Douglas, will present a fascinating glimpse of this important historical figure.
