COURSE
Course description
Punjabi migrants from South Asia, of diverse regional origins, religions, and political affiliations, have entered, lived and worked in many regions of Canada, especially BC, for over a century. Bringing a historical lens to the present, this lecture offers a history of Punjabi migrations and their politics, starting in the 1890s and includes the politics of Indian revolutionaries, the end of British imperial rule and the rise of independent India and Pakistan, and post-World War II changes in migration. Additionally, this lecture will cover the rise of the Khalistan movement, India-Canada relationships, and the rise of Punjabi Canadian social life.
