Course description
During this course, you will focus on the concepts, skills and practices for organizing for
transformational change. This includes intersectional analysis, power mapping, theories of change,
effective communications, alliance-building strategies, and navigating and overcoming barriers
to change. With a focus on student-led, semester-long projects, deep reflection and learning
directly for organizers across Canada, you will emerge from this course with more skills, tools
and hope for the work ahead.
Learning objectives
Upon completion of the course, you will be able to:
- understand and communicate different aspects and dimensions of transformative change
- apply theories of intersectionality, hegemony, counter-hegemony (and others) to be able to identify, understand and engage with the systems, power relations and root causes that climate organizers are seeking to transform
- employ tools and skills for designing and assessing strategic campaigns for transformative impact
- benefit from an increased sense of hope and agency—with a new understanding that transformative change is possible—and that collective action is key and you can contribute in diverse and empowering ways.
