Course description

Though rarely remembered today, the South African War of 1899–1902, more commonly referred to as the Boer War, was one of the first times that late 19th century technological and societal developments were tested on the modern battlefield. Thus, the Boer War ended up demonstrating numerous principles that would heavily shape later wars in the 20th century, including defensive tactics, counterinsurgency strategies and the power of mass media to influence public attitudes towards conflict.
