Course description

The Persian kings of the Teispid and Achaemenid dynasties built the first state the size of Canada. Messages and messengers came from modern Egypt, Uzbekistan, Greece and Pakistan to their spectacular palace at Persepolis in Iran. Many of the texts which make up the Hebrew Bible were probably written or edited in this period. This session will provide an overview of this ancient empire and an opportunity to think about where many of the things we take for granted come from.
