Course description
In this course you will have the opportunity to explore topics related to working in the homelessness serving sector. You will be introduced to definitions of homelessness and the Housing First Principles. You will have the opportunity to explore stigma and bias as they relate to working with people experiencing homelessness. You will also be introduced to the principles of trauma and violence informed care and you will have the opportunity to explore using the techniques in supporting people who are experiencing homelessness.
Learning objectives
After successfully completing this course, you will be able to:
- Define and describe different types of homelessness
- Describe the dimensions of the Indigenous definition of homelessness
- Explain Housing First Principles
- Describe different experiences of people who experience homelessness
- Define stigma and describe an anti-stigma approach to supporting people who are experiencing homelessness
- Explain the fundamentals of trauma and violence informed care and apply the principles to supporting people who are experiencing homelessness
