Due to the ongoing pandemic, the English Language Centre at UVic has cancelled all on-campus programs until January 2022 except for ELPI September with a limited availability. Please see this important update about what students can expect in ELPI September.

For those registered in cancelled programs, students have the choice of a: full refund, transfer to a future program, or transfer to an online program (with the balance of fees settled).

The ELC continues to offer the following online programs:

This full-time program combines English language classes and public speaking workshops to strengthen public speaking and communication confidence. 

  • 20 hours of general English classes per week 
  • 16 hours of professional communication workshops
  • Homestay accommodation and meals

Program description

Through an intensive combination of English language classes and public speaking workshops, this program will strengthen your public speaking, fluency and communication confidence.

In addition to the challenging English classes you will attend as a participant in our “Summer Language and Culture” program, you will:

  • Improve accuracy, pronunciation and fluency through an interactive portfolio-based approach
  • Develop and practice public speaking skills through a Toastmaster-like format
  • Give a variety of oral presentations, based on specific themes and other topics tailored to your specific interests and professions

Participants receive a 16-hour Professional Development Certificate in addition to a Certificate of Participation for their general English classes.
