The English Language Centre among finalists for "Language Training Provider of the Year" award
We are thrilled to announce that the English Language Centre (ELC) has been named a finalist for the "Language Training Provider of the Year" award by Professionals in International Education (PIE). The 2023 PIEoneer Awards recognize excellence, impact and leadership in 20 categories within the field of international education. The winners will be announced at a gala ceremony in London, UK, on September 22.
Finalists in the category of "Language Training Provider of the Year" were selected on the basis of showing outstanding initiative(s) in the following areas:
- student services and support
- digital innovation and teaching
- student mental health and well-being
- professional development for teachers and staff
- cultural integration and exchange
Recognition as a category finalist validates the exceptional quality of our English programs. Despite the challenges of 2020, we remained dedicated to providing affordable, high-quality programs to our students. As students returned to in-person studies beginning in late 2021, we knew attitudes towards travel, risk-taking and being away from family had changed. Acknowledging these concerns, we strived to give our students a sense of security and confidence with each of their "first steps" beyond their comfort zones. We enhanced our student support and resource management to create an experience where students felt inspired to develop their language skills and cultural competencies, whether studying on-campus or online. In 2022, these efforts were rewarded as we welcomed 1,700 students to ELC programs, with two-thirds attending programs in person at UVic.
At the ELC, we take great pride in our strong partnerships with universities and agencies around the world. Throughout our long history and the pandemic, these collaborative partnerships have been instrumental in supporting our students' needs. They have contributed significantly to our success as an international education leader for over 50 years!
Our commitment to our student’s well-being and success is unwavering, and we owe this achievement to the extraordinary efforts and dedication from our ELC team. Each member of our team has played an integral role in creating an environment where students feel supported and motivated to learn and connect with one another, and their passion and expertise have made this recognition possible. We are honoured to be shortlisted as a finalist for the "Language Training Provider of the Year" award and look forward to continuing to provide high-quality language training to our students.
