(Non)conformity in Theatre History
COURSE
Course description
This course is a survey of (non)conformity in the history of Western theatre. We will investigate the selected plays and performances on a historical and sociopolitical palette to see how (non)conformity was conceived in each period and how theatre mirrored, contested, and problematized the docile and conforming bodies and identities within the broader contexts of race, gender, and class. We will critically engage with these plays, and connect them to our lives, politics and world today.
