Cattail Hat Weaving

Course description
In this course, the skill of basketry will be employed in hat-making to create a beautifully woven broad-brimmed hat. You will gain: the weaving skills necessary to create additional hats and baskets; an increased appreciation of the time and skill involved in basketry; and an understanding of sustainable harvesting methods. The material used is of the invasive, non-native, cattail species. This course is open to beginner and advanced weavers.
Students are encouraged to take frequent stretch breaks, but should come prepared to sit for most of each session. Students are required to transport their project to and from UVic for each session.
