Course description
Learn and explore the various approaches to comprehensive, evidence-aligned reading and writing instruction, and interventions, while considering the role of oral language. In this course, the importance of progress monitoring to facilitate responsive instruction and intervention is emphasized.
Learning objectives
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- explain the role of explicit, structured teaching within a multi-tiered system of support in developing all students’ literacy skills
- develop effective, culturally responsive resources and instructional routines for comprehensive classroom literacy instruction, as well as targeted interventions for students at-risk for, or currently experiencing, literacy difficulties
- use a variety of learning assessments in reading, writing and spelling to drive responsive instruction and monitor/report on progress
- evaluate and recommend resources for reading and writing assessment, instruction and intervention that align with current literacy research
