Using Visual Tools in Engagement for Community Planning
Part of:
Urban and Regional Planning
Course description
This workshop introduces planners to current trends in using visual tools to enhance inclusivity, accessibility, and impact in community engagement.
You will explore how visual communication methods—such as infographics, educational materials, illustrations, website graphics, and graphic facilitation—can strengthen engagement processes across municipal and Indigenous planning contexts. An emphasis on practical applications, real-world examples, and reflective discussion ensures you leave with information that you can directly apply to your work.
Learning objectives
Upon completion of this workshop, you will be able to:
- identify a range of visual tools, including graphic facilitation and match them to different stages of an engagement process
- recognize when and how to integrate visual methods and what kind of visuals to use to support inclusive participation
- reflect on opportunities to expand communication methods for diverse and hard-to-reach communities
