Transformative Planning through JEDI
Part of:
Urban and Regional Planning
Course description
In this workshop, we will critically reflect on “who are cities being designed for and by whom?” by looking at how the principles of JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion) can be embedded in municipal and regional plans, policies and procedures. We will discuss how JEDI tools such as equity audits, equity frameworks and social equity mapping contribute to the social, cultural, economic and environmental transformation of cities. The workshop will provide a foundation in understanding key racial terminology and how power and privilege play a role in exclusive planning and design of cities. Case studies will be explored to illustrate how cities can be transformed through inclusive planning and decolonizing practices. Can we decolonize cities without decolonizing our minds?
