A serene river winds through a forested valley beneath dramatic mountain peaks on a bright, sunny day. Sunbeams create a natural lens flare in the upper left corner. The riverbanks are lined with evergreen and deciduous trees showing autumn colors. Tall grasses and vegetation grow along the water

Restoration our past and future: towards a way of life

COURSE

Course description

Join Dr. Richard Heba to learn how we can all participate in the respectful rebalancing of global systems and human communities though big and small actions.

Thirty years ago, Continuing Studies at UVic identified a training gap in the developing field of Restoration. Well ahead of others, a unique program of holistic restoration blending science, social sciences, and the humanities emerged. From politics to plant ecology, we invited all to participate whatever their background. We included practical experience in the field and in the human community.

Today, global systems of water (hydrosphere), air (atmosphere), life (biosphere) and land (geosphere) are widely out of balance as a fifth system humanity (sociosphere) robs energy and resources. Pushing aside the laws of nature, our present system alters global climates and leads to the catastrophic depletion of the diversity of life.

Holistic Restoration presents a way of life, to bring humanity into equilibrium with the earth!
