Japanese - Level 3

COURSE

Course description

If you have completed Japanese - Level 2 or have a solid foundation in the language, including recognition of hiragana and katakana, this intermediate-level course is for you.

Japanese - Level 3 builds on your grammatical knowledge and conversational ability while introducing key aspects of Japanese culture. You will also be introduced to additional basic kanji characters to further develop your reading and writing skills.

By the end of the course, you will select a topic of personal interest and deliver a short presentation in Japanese.

Learning objectives

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • give reasons for doing or not doing something
  • talk about your family and friends
  • describe how people look and what they are wearing
  • express your likes and dislikes
  • use useful expressions for everyday situations
  • expand your vocabulary to suit a variety of topics
  • carry on a conversation using more advanced grammar structures
  • begin reading and writing some basic kanji characters
  • choose a topic of interest and give a short presentation in Japanese

We encourage students to participate in our language courses more than one time in order to truly learn the material taught over 10 lessons. It also gives you additional exposure to varying activities within each topic.

Online Learning

Our online hybrid language courses make language learning flexible and convenient. The use of both synchronous and asynchronous delivery styles allows for both real-time virtual classroom conversation practice (synchronous delivery) and self-paced study (asynchronous delivery). The synchronous delivery style will occur during the scheduled class dates and time, using Zoom for videoconferencing, chat and screen sharing for class instruction and pair/group work. The asynchronous delivery style uses Brightspace, an online environment where learners can access class materials and resources for self-paced study throughout the week. Educational activities can include exercises, readings, forums, audio/video files, quizzes, etc.
