Course description
Through a blend of theory and practical skill development, this course focuses on the essentials required for effective engagement with issues in global development. It will equip you with useful tools for development practice that are transferable to many other contexts whether professional or volunteer.
You will learn skills in program planning, proposal writing, intercultural communication, needs assessment, results-based management (RBM) and evaluation. The skills you will develop in this course are relevant to a wide range of international, national, regional or local opportunities, including internships, research, policy work, roles with NGOs, community organizations, government and funding agencies.
Throughout the course, we will examine our roles and potential to contribute to change within the deeply rooted social and economic systems that shape the development landscape. We we will critically reflect on our motivations for doing this work, grapple with the complexities of engaging across difference, and interrogate our “good intentions” in order to deepen the impact of our work and contribute to meaningful, structural social change.
