Indigenous Sovereignty for Settlers

Course description
Together we will explore Indigenous sovereignty on Coast Salish (and other) territories and how settlers can better support Indigenous resurgence. We will explore the structures of settler colonialism, how settlers reproduce these structures unknowingly and cause harm, and the methods for becoming more responsible visitors on Coast Salish territory. Join us in developing a deeper understanding of Indigenous protocol, sovereignty, and relationships, and a practical toolkit to better provide harm-free support for Indigenous initiatives and projects.
Learning objectives
- Become more aware of Indigenous protocol, sovereignty and relationships,
- Become more comfortable receiving correction from Indigenous peoples,
- Develop a means of understanding settler responsibilities on stolen land, specifically Coast Salish territory
- Identify a set of practices that reinforce settler unlearning
