The Impact of Loneliness on Mind, Body and Brain
COURSE
Course description
Recent research has equated psychological loneliness with exerting a more deleterious influence on one’s health than smoking 15 cigarettes per day or being absolutely sedentary. In this session, we will explore the impact of loneliness and social isolation on psychological wellness, memory and cognition, as well as physiological and brain function. We’ll discuss the promise of lifestyle interventions and social prescriptions for mitigating loneliness and enhancing healthy aging for all, as well as improving quality of life for persons living with dementia in particular.
