Encounters with Place | Day 1: Water (only)

An introduction to local ecology, including sights and sounds, with a focus on the landscapes, waterscape and plants that surround us.
This is one day of a two-day program running over two Saturdays, approximately 6 hours each day. You can sign up for one or both sessions. Completion of the full program (both sessions) provides you with a CIFAL Certificate. If you want to register for both days, see Encounters with Place (full program).

Day 1: Saturday, March 14, 2026
9 am–3:30 pm
Day 1 begins with a brief in-class presentation introducing students to names and imagery of local plants and waterways surrounding campus, followed by a walk through a pollinator meadow to the summit of p’kaals (Mt. Tolmie).
After a return to campus for a lunch break (lunch not included), students will listen to a brief presentation on the Hobbes Creek watershed and then visit the headwaters of the creek, following its path through Mystic Vale.
Language learning will centre on water features, landforms and plants (both native and introduced).
