Director, Program and Business Development
Richard leads strategic initiatives to advance divisional priorities, promote program and business growth, and foster a culture of quality learning and data-driven decisions. Among other responsibilities, Richard is involved in program development, including the Division’s online learning strategy; identifying new and cross-program opportunities; and developing resources, processes and tools to facilitate market research and accelerate program development. He is also responsible for directing a large group of program areas within the Division including Arts & Science, Education, Cultural Resource Management, and Health Sciences & Public Relations. Additionally, Richard represents the Division on a number of committees.
Background
Richard Rush’s career in technology adoption and education has crossed both the private and public sectors. Prior to the University of Victoria, Richard was the Director of SAIT Polytechnic’s Centre for Instructional Technology and Development (or CITD), a unit that collaboratively supports the institution through faculty development, curriculum development and learning technology support. He also served as the chair of three key institutional committees at SAIT: the Curriculum Council, the Sustainability Steering Committee and the e-Learning Steering Committee.
Richard also has many years’ experience in the tech industry, having worked and consulted for several companies including SMART Technologies and Elluminate (now known as Blackboard Collaborate). He is also a long-time educator, having taught middle school, high school and post-secondary students and was one of the founding teachers at Rocky View Virtual School, which opened in 1998. Richard holds a Diploma in Nuclear Medicine Technology, a Bachelor of Education, and both the Master and Doctor of Business Administration designations. He has also completed post-graduate work at the Harvard Graduate School of Education in Higher Education leadership.
