Professional Development (Pro-D) Funding

This credit‑bearing micro‑certificate is eligible for Professional Development (Pro‑D) funding.

Active BC teachers typically apply for Pro‑D funding through their local BCTF teachers’ association (e.g., GVTA, NDTU, etc.). Pro‑D funding is administered locally, and application details are provided by each association.

Participants are encouraged to contact their local teachers’ association for information on eligibility, application steps, and deadlines.

Provincial Bursaries

BC educators may also be eligible for provincial bursaries offered by the Ministry of Education and Child Care (French Education Branch). These bursaries support teachers in strengthening their French‑language proficiency and French Immersion pedagogy.

Information about eligibility and application processes is provided directly by the Ministry.

Note: Participants are responsible for confirming funding eligibility and application deadlines with their local teachers’ association and the Ministry of Education and Child Care, as applicable.

Admission requirements

This program is open to both in-service and pre-service K-12 educators. Applicants should have:

• an intermediate level of French language proficiency, as the program is designed to enhance existing skills rather than teach the language from a beginner level. See section below.
• access to a computer and reliable internet connection to engage with the asynchronous online course materials

Language proficiency admission requirements

To ensure learner success in courses delivered entirely in French, applicants are required to demonstrate French language proficiency equivalent to the B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Proficiency will be assessed through one of the following methods:

1. Recognized External Certification. Applicants may satisfy this requirement by submitting valid documentation of a DELF (Diplôme d'études en langue française) B1 diploma (or higher) obtained within the last three years in addition to a brief letter of motivation in French.
2. UVic Continuing Studies Online French Proficiency Test. For applicants without current official certification, the primary method of evaluation is our internal Online French Proficiency Test. The test evaluates all four language competencies—reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
3. An official post-secondary transcript from studies at an institution (one-year minimum) where French is the main language of instruction (e.g., Université de Montréal).
