Course description

In February 2026, the ELC will be offering a specialized, 2-week online learning series called Cultural Discovery!

Through 10 study hours per week, Cultural Discovery participants will build confidence in all four skill levels as they explore specialized themes according to their language level:

Pre-Intermediate class theme: Cultures and Countries
Advanced class theme: Intercultural Communication and Globalization

Participants in this series will attend five hours of synchronous (live) classes plus five hours of guided asynchronous course work per week. In addition to their live classes and course work, participants will also enjoy weekly Social Connect activities such as online conversation practice or games.

This learning series is open to anyone, however ELC students in programs on campus before or after the series may find it especially beneficial. Students planning to attend March Monthly English or April ELPI may take this course to prepare for their face-to-face studies! Students finishing January Monthly English may take this course to continue learning after returning home.

Upon completion, participants will receive a Record of Grade and a Certificate of Completion reflecting their online studies.

Dates: February 9 - 20, 2026

Levels: Pre-Intermediate and Advanced

Content focus: Global Issues

Hours: 20 hours total (10 hours per week)

Synchronous (live) class schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 5–6:40 pm (Victoria, BC Time). You may need to use a time zone converter to find the class times in your home town. See your class calendar.

Tuition: $475 CAD*

Registration deadline: January 20, 2026

*Course withdrawal must occur prior to course start date to receive a refund less a $25 administration fee. Fees are non-refundable after the course start date.

An online level placement test will be sent to each student by email after they register. This test must be completed within one week of receiving the link.

This course will run subject to minimum enrolment.
