The Art of Reading
COURSE
Course description
In a world of endless information at our fingertips, why should one pick up a novel, an essay, a great work of literature or philosophy, or a poem?
This course investigates the classical and foundational pieces of writing that support the intellectual motivation to read, the changing art of the practice, and the benefits to be gained.
As Francis Bacon once remarked, “read not to contradict and confute, nor to believe and take for granted, nor to find talk and discourse, but to weigh and consider.”
