Homer's Odyssey and the Intervention of the Gods
COURSE
Course description
Discover the genius of Homer’s gods and heroes that are cleverly modelled after ancient Greek culture, poetry and education. Uncover why Homer, through his epic poetry, has the ancient Greek gods intervening in human life. What purpose did they serve in the hero’s journey? Why were they benevolent to some and vengeful to others? What does this tell us about Homer’s conception of virtue and duty? Journey beyond knowing names like Odysseus, Athena or Poseidon, and gain an understanding of ancient Greek archetypes and their historical context.
