COURSE
Course description
Discover the impressive skills, traditions, innovations and meanings found within Ottoman art and architecture. The stories of the artists and architects working within the empire between the historical formation of the dynasty c.1299 and the end in 1923 are part of the wider histories of the Mediterranean and the Middle East, earning them the admiration of popes and queens. We will look closely at what it meant to be an Ottoman citizen, and how geography, politics, and belief are visible in Ottoman art and architecture.
