Course description

The DELF B1 (Diplôme d’études en langue française) certifies an independant - threshold level (Threshold) level of French proficiency according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

This examination is suitable for education professionals and adult learners in British Columbia who wish to formally document their French language skills. Candidates may include recent graduates, professionals working in bilingual environments, or individuals building toward higher‑level language certification (such as DELF B2).

The DELF B1 assesses a candidate’s ability to understand and produce clear French in familiar contexts, express opinions, and handle everyday professional or social situations.

Examination format

Written tests (Listening comprehension, reading comprehension, written production)
  • Paper‑based
  • Start time: 9 am sharp

Duration

  • Written test: 1 hour 55 minutes (9:00-10:55 am)
  • Oral test: individual oral interviews are typically scheduled in the afternoon, following the written tests.
    Exact timings are communication during the week prior to the test session.
Location
  • Exam locations vary by session. Room and location details will be emailed to candidates one week before the examination session.

Refund policy

Requests to withdraw must be received by the posted deadline. Any request to withdraw received before June 10 will be issued a full refund. No refunds will be issued after this date.
