Course description
This course explores mental health challenges faced by older adults, examining how biological, psychosocial, and systemic factors influence mental health outcomes in later life. Learners will analyze ethical responsibilities and learn to differentiate key late-life mental health conditions, including mood, neurocognitive, and psychotic disorders. Learners will evaluate the potential impacts of late-life transitions and issues, such as retirement, caregiving, isolation, and grief, on mental health. Ultimately, learners will apply strength-based principles to develop practical, real-world supports that can help foster resilience, social connectedness, and overall quality of life for older adults through collaborative approaches that respect individual diversity and autonomy.
