Tin-Yui (Tim) Wong
Tim Wong from Hong Kong found the Language and Culture program memorable because it helped him form close friendships with students from around the world, turning English into a real way to connect through shared stories and cultures. One of his favourite memories was the last day of the program, when classmates who had been strangers just five weeks earlier were hugging, laughing, and saying goodbye like old friends.

I attended the Language and Culture program.
What made your ELC program special?
Honestly, what made it special was definitely the people. I met so many friends from all over the world, and English stopped being just a school subject—it became the way we actually connected in real life. I loved just listening to everyone's different stories and getting a real glimpse into their cultures.
What is the most memorable thing that happened to you as an ELC student?
Definitely the last day of school. Seeing all of us—who were complete strangers just five weeks earlier—laughing and playing together like old best friends felt incredibly special. That final picture of everyone hugging and saying goodbye honestly warmed my heart.
Do you have any favourite memories of Canadian culture?
I loved how kind and open-minded everyone was. People would always smile and say hi, even to strangers, which made me feel so welcome right away.
How did learning with students from other cultures change how you see the world?
Learning with students from so many different cultures gave me a whole new perspective on things. It really helped me become more open-minded and taught me not to judge anyone by their first impression. Now I always try to look deeper and understand where people are coming from.
Did studying English with us open any new opportunities for you? What are you doing now?
It gave me the chance to meet people from all over, way beyond my own hometown. Right now, I'm trying to travel around the world to reunite with those friends I made during the program.
Advice for new students
My biggest advice is to be open-minded and step out of your comfort zone. Try to talk to people from different countries instead of just sticking to your own language group, and don't be afraid of making mistakes. Just relax and enjoy the unique experience in your life.
What's Victoria like?
Victoria was so chill and relaxing, such a safe and friendly city where everyone was incredibly kind. It was the perfect backdrop for my ELC journey.
